Most of what we know about Amos is in the first verse of the book that bears his name:

The words of Amos, who was among the shepherds of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the earthquake. (Amos 1:1)

Tekoa was about 15km from Jerusalem on a large hill overlooking the wilderness of Judah. Amos was a contemporary of Isaiah, Micah and Hosea, living about 750BC. Later in his book, we also learn that he wasn’t trained as a prophet, and wasn’t the son of a prophet; rather he was a farmer and fig grower (Amos 7:14).
