In Daniel 3, King Nebuchadnezzar set up an enormous image of gold and decreed that everyone should bow down to it. Daniel’s friends — Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego — refused to do so, and so were thrown into a fiery furnace which miraculously did not harm them.

Many people have wondered where Daniel was during this episode. He would not have been willing to bow down to the image either, yet he is not mentioned in chapter. We can only guess that he must have been out of town for some reason. In the previous chapter, Daniel had been made ruler of the entire province of Babylon, so he may have been on official business in another part of the province.

One Response to Where was Daniel during the furnace episode?

  1. Rob Labs says:

    No sire!
Everyone in public office were called and recalled, Daniel inclusive! As to where he was, the answer was that he was there by the king, and he watched the events. He did not bow down because he was exempted! Why you ask? He was deemed to be a god by Nebuchadnezzar the king.

Remember that in Chapter 2, the king fell down for Daniel, then made oblation for him! The key observation is the OBLATION. Pagans don’t do oblation unless they are convinced by some means that you are a god! Daniel was thus promoted to that status and therefore can not be approached to bow! Remember Antioch event with Paul and Silas? Go read it and don’t be lazy!
