The “will of God” is whatever God wants, just like our will is whatever we want. God’s will depends on the circumstances. For example:

  • 1 Thessalonians 4:3. “For this is the will of God, your sanctification”.
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:18. “…give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

We are told we must do the will of God (i.e., we must do what God wants): Matt 7:21; 12:50; Mark 3:35; Ephesians 6:6; Hebrews 10:36; 1 John 2:17.

And we must know the will of God (i.e., we must understand what God wants): Romans 12:2; Ephesians 5:17; Colossians 4:12.

We are also told that God helps us to do his will: Hebrews 13:21
