Back on 23rd April, 2011, I answered the question, “Will Jesus return on 21 May 2011?”  That question alone has generated thousands of hits on this site, particularly in the last week or so (much more than any other question we’ve ever answered).

Well, the world didn’t end — I think we would’ve noticed. Personally, I was pretty confused about the whole timezone thing — I spent most of the candidate times in a plane over the Pacific Ocean, and I was wondering exactly when the big event might be for me.

Perhaps the world did end for the fellow who made all these predictions. God said:

When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him. (Deut 18:22)

Though, he didn’t really claim to speak in the Lord’s name on this — smart thinking! It was just his own prediction based on his interpretation.

Well, I’ll make a prediction of my own though — he’ll keep thinking up new dates after revising his methodology, and each time it doesn’t happen, he’ll look just a little more ridiculous.

Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. (Mat 24:44)

And we have something more sure, the prophetic word, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts (2 Pe 1:19)
