Hallelujah is a Hebrew phrase that means ‘praise Yah’ (‘Yah’ is short for ‘Yahweh’, which is the name God gave himself in Exodus 3:15 — here, in English, it is translated as ‘LORD’). It is said in verses like Psalm 111:1; 112:1; 113:1; 135:1; 147:1; 148:1; 149:1; & 150:1 (where it is usually written in English as ‘Praise the LORD’). The word was transliterated into Greek and is used four times in the New Testament, all in Revelation chapter 19: Rev. 19:1,3,4&6.
