There are several reasons for the creation of men and women suggested in the Bible: …. bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the end of the earth – everyone who is called by my name, who I created for my glory, whom I formed and made. (Isaiah 43:6-7) God wanted children like Himself. (Romans 8:18-30) God is love. Love needs a recipient as well as a giver. (1 John 4:7-12) God wants to show His immeasurable riches of grace. Plus, He is creative – we are His workmanship. (Ephesians 2:4-10) “And for thy pleasure they are and were created.” (Revelation 4:11b, KJV) Humans created to be part of a creation headed by Christ It can also be said that John 1:1-5 gives another understanding of ‘why’. John expresses it in just a few words, John 1:1-5, with ideas found in Gen 1:-5, 26-28. It can be said from this that the Lord Jesus Christ was God’s idea, so therefore God created the universe because of the idea of God’s beloved son being God’s FIRST idea. Bearing in mind (and heart) also that “…God is love” (1 John 4:8). If Genesis 1 ended at verse 25 then would that have been sufficient for God? Making something to bear his image, v26-27, (read: share in his gracious rule over the cosmos) seems to be what he wants. He wants humanity to share in his goodness and gracious nature by being in his image. Since God’s first idea was the Lord Jesus (see John 1:1-5), and as a result of that idea, God then decided to create the universe “in His image & likeness” toward the end goal of God’s main idea – a Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus really is the crown of creation, the pinnacle of creation, the purpose of creation. Jesus is the pinnacle around which everything else looks forward and back. But again, God’s plan was always multitudes, as the sand and stars. An earth teeming with life, overflowing with glory. “Be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth” (Genesis 1:28). This tells us that humans are not simply and afterthought or side-effect of Jesus’ own place in God’s salvation, but we were also with Jesus in God’s plan from the beginning, which was to bring many sons to glory (Hebrews 2).
