Gen. 2:18 says that people need company, but the Bible does not say that there is a partner for everyone in the world. Some of the greatest people in the Bible were single — including the Lord Jesus, who was perfect — which demonstrates that not everyone will have a partner during their life. It also demonstrates that being single is not a deficiency.

In fact, the Bible gives a very positive view of singleness. We can see this most powerfully in the life of Jesus and, for example, God says both marriage and singleness are gifts (1Cor.1:7). Being single isn’t better than being married. And being married isn’t better than being single. The two are just different, and both are gifts from God. They both bring many different opportunities in life.

What we must make sure we don’t do is think that the “grass is greener” on the other side. We mustn’t neglect one for the sake of the other. When we are single we mustn’t treat it as a bad thing. We mustn’t wish away our singleness; we must realise it is a gift from God (as equally as marriage is a gift from God), and we should use it well and to the full.

In Eph. 5:16 (NIV), Paul says that we should ‘make the most of every opportunity.’ We should make the most of the opportunities that our singleness brings, using it to the full.

    Thanks for that Luke.
Except it leaves me as a dillema, whenver a non-Christian asked me my stance on sex before marraige, I answered
“Well, if God has a perfect partner for me, why would I ruin that and settle for less?”
Are there any Bible verses that would support that God has a partner for those who ask him/ stay true to him?
