There are several hints in the Bible that the wise men came to see Jesus up to a couple of years after he was born.
First, Jesus was in a house when they saw him (Matthew 2:11), and no longer in the animal shelter where he was born (Luke 2:7).
Second, Herod killed all babies under 2 years (Matthew 2:16) “according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men”. So presumably Herod thought that Jesus could have been born up to two years earlier.
The typical Christmas card and Christmas carol depiction of the wise men seeing Jesus in a stable is one of the many aspects of Christmas that are not found in the Bible.
