“Rapture”

The term ‘rapture’ does not occur in the Bible, but it is used to refer to a time when, so it is suggested, the faithful will be taken from their normal environment and drawn up into the clouds to meet the Lord, leaving behind a trail of confusion. Some suggest that they will be suspended in space between the earth and clouds for a thousand years. The ideas are based on the words of 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, although a careful reading of the passage and the rest of scripture suggests a different scenario. There is a gathering via the air, but the destination is not heaven – that would contradict Matthew 24 – instead the destination of the angelic gathering is Jerusalem.
A kingdom on earth

Jesus Christ will certainly return to the earth and institute a new world order, in which he will reign as King over the whole earth and the word of God will go out from Zion (Isaiah 2:2-4). After he returns to the earth Jesus will gather the true believers together (Matthew 24:30-31), raise the dead to life, and all the faithful — whether they are alive or dead at the time of his return — will be transformed from mortality to immortality at the same instant (1 Corinthians 15:50-57). They will help Jesus to rule the earth for the next thousand years (Revelation 20:6).

So, the return of Christ and the blessing of the faithful with eternal life will introduce the new world order. But they will reign on the earth (Revelation 5:10), not be suspended in space.

  1. Jonathan Morgan says:

You appear to speak just of the faithful being transformed from mortality to immortality in an instant, but there is to be a judgement of both the righteous and the unrighteous. Where does the judgement fit into this scheme?

Doesn’t seem what you’re saying is correct, The governments of the world we live in create the new world order for anti christ to rule and decieve many. It says in the bible that those who are in Christ meet the Lord in the air (Why do we meet the Lord in the air? Because Jesus is on the white horse on His way to the earth and we meet Him and join Him in the battle we intercede and pray the book of revelation along with the church on earth during the tribulation) Jesus returns just at the end of the seven year tribulation period to strike the nations down who are against him He comes on the clouds. He doesn’t come to create a new world order He comes to end the age (The way the world is goverened) Remember He is already King, Savior, Lord He comes back to take back what is already His with righteousness and justice. 🙂 During the thousand year reign we will prepare the new earth for the Father when He comes down to the new earth on the new Heaven, and then after the all of His enemies are under Him and made His footstool Jesus hands over ALL authority to God the Father and we will worship Him all in all.

Ask anyone and they will tell you that the word “rapture” does not appear in the bible. The Bibles that we currently use are English translations. The Greek translation of the word Rapture is harpagisometha, from the verb that means “we shall be caught up” or “taken away”. The Latin translation of the word Rapture is rapiemur, from the verb rapio meaning “to catch up” or “take away”. Numerous times in the English translation of the Bible you will see the phrases, “shall be caught up”, “taken away”, or “gathered”.

    In response to Jonathan’s question:
In Revelation 7:3-8, God seals 144,000 (12,000 from the 12 tribes of Israel) to be His bond-servants. So what is a bond-servant and what is the purpose of the 144,000. A bond-servant is mentioned in 2 Peter 1:1 as being an apostle of Christ. These 144,000 have come to know Christ (Revelation 14:1) and their purpose is like the purpose of an apostle, to spread the Gospel of Christ. They will cause the greatest revival in the history of the world during the tribulation period. They will witness, and people will come to believe in Christ. But they will be persecuted and die for those beliefs (Revelation 7:14). So the judgement is for those who are still alive at the end if the tribulation period and have heard the Gospel from the witnesses and chose to believe or not to believe.
