I am the Lord; that is my name;
my glory I give to no other,
nor my praise to carved idols (Isaiah 48:8)

that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him (John 5:23)

So the logic behind the question goes something like this: Jesus is honoured in the same way as the Father is honoured and therefore he must be God, because God does not share glory and honour. The assumption is that “just as” in John 5:23 means “in the same way”. But this is simply incorrect. This verse is making the comparison between the honour of the Father and the honour of the Son, and making the point that the Son will be honoured because the Father is honoured. This verse is not about the quality, quantity or degree of honour.

One Response to God will not share his glory with another (Isaiah 42:8) but Jesus is honoured “just as” the Father (John 5:23) – isn’t the only logical conclusion that Jesus is God?

  1. Sothie says:

    Will you ever read the scripture as it is….

    John 5:19 “Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.” Whatever God gave His Son (which you obviously have a problem to swallow)….made the Son do whatever His Father does…..So long He sees Him doing it.. What words you will twist here?

    Do you know why you don’t worship Lucifer?Because he can’t do what God the Father does…not even close. If he was close….there would be no reason of God getting mad. His Son does though…..whatever the Father gave Him or shows Him verse 20…made Him that…but Jesus has never claimed equality to His Dad…..why cant you love that….and no wonder God the Father is all secure with it

    Verse 21, “For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth [them]; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.” NOTICE AS JESUS WILLS……NOT HIS FATHER HERE

    In verse 22 “For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:”

    NOTICE ALL…….ALL JUDGEMENT….AS THE SON WILLS TOO….WHATEVER JESUS DECIDES GOD WILL TAKE IT…..

    Verse 23 ” That all [men] should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. ”
    Dishonor to the son is as worse/lethal as to the Father……His Father has given Him that Place and you wannt to refute?Cumon…..

    But look how humble the son is…..His Father has given Him ALL authority to Judge and yet He says this in verse 30 “I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.” He still cares about His Father…though He could run the show on His own.

    I have made any assumption…those are my verses……but here is what you will do….you will take a single verse from…run a post…get another one and so on…..you fail to argue them together,ending up with very wrong assumptions
