You should attend whichever church you feel is teaching truly according to the Bible and where you will be helped to follow the way of Jesus Christ.
It is important to check that what is taught is biblical and not just traditional church teaching. There are three Bible teachings that many churches get wrong, and it is often a good test to ask about these:
- The Bible teaches that faithful people who die will remain unconscious in the grave until Jesus returns (Daniel 12:2; John 5:28-29; 1 Cor 15:20-23). Many churches teach that the dead go to heaven instead.
- The Bible teaches Jesus is God’s son (Luke 1:35; John 1:34; 20:31). Many churches teach that Jesus is God himself.
- The Bible teaches that we experience temptation due to our own sinful human nature (James 1:14-15; Mark 7:21). Many churches teach that a supernatural devil leads them into temptation instead.
We are not suggesting that these are the only important Bible teachings, or even that these are the most important Bible teachings. But they do provide a useful and quick check on whether a church is likely to have Bible-based teaching.
