The Bible contains a timeless message of hope and is by no means a book of the past. God, the author of the Bible, is timeless (Psalm 90:2) and wishes to share eternity with the people who love Him (Romans 6:23).
Thousands of years ago God instructed the nation of Israel to “teach their children” His ways. The people were told to:
“…Make them known to your children and your children’s children.” Deuteronomy 4:9 (also Deuteronomy 6:7 & 11:19)
This wasn’t a one-off commandment. Each generation would have the responsibility of passing God’s message onto the next. God initiated a chain reaction to perpetuate knowledge of himself and His word which is still going today.
Many of God’s promises recorded in the Bible are relevant for all times. For example, after the flood God said to Noah that such a devastating flood would never destroy life on earth to the same extent. The rainbow in the clouds would be a sign of this covenant – “for all future generations” (See Genesis 9:11-13). Many of the Psalms refer to God and His nature as being known throughout all generations, the Bible has played a vital role in this. Here is a selection of relevant Psalms:
“I will cause your name to be remembered in all generations; therefore nations will praise you for ever and ever.” Psalm 45: 17
“I will sing of the steadfast love of the LORD, for ever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations.” Psalm 89:1
Although the world is constantly changing, God’s word the Bible, is still humanity’s essential guide. Today, as the Psalmist says, the Bible can revive us, make us wise, give joy to the heart and light to the eyes (Psalm 19:7-11).
The Good News revealed in the Bible, about Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God, has not changed or become irrelevant. The human race needs a Saviour more than ever.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8
