The Bible says very little about what will happen at the end of the 1000 year reign of Christ. In fact, there are probably only two relevant passages: Revelation 20:7-15 which describes a final battle and final judgement, and 1 Corinthians 15:24-28 which says
Then comes the end, when he [Christ] delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. For “God has put all things in subjection under his feet.” But when it says, “all things are put in subjection,” it is plain that he is excepted who put all things in subjection under him. When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things in subjection under him, that God may be all in all.
Neither of these passages describes what happens next.
There are Bible passages which describe a “new heavens and a new earth” (e.g., Isaiah 65:17; 66:22; 2 Peter 3:13) but these seem to describe the time when Jesus returns and refer to a new world order rather than literally a new planet.

I ask the same question that Randy asks: have I taken 2 Peter 3 too literally? Maybe I should also ask if I do not take the 1000 year reign literally enough. The way the 1000 year reign plays itself out according to some millenialist arguments that I have heard is very inconsistent.
a. If there are 1000 years of Christ ruling on the earth, then will no one die? Presumably no one will sin as He will be tangibly present. I suppose (and I could be wrong) that if no one sins, then there will be no death… ?
b. Why should the Devil be let loose after the 1000 years to ruin the peace and harmony that Christ’s physical presence on the earth has established? This is not like in the Garden of Eden when Satan was loose to tempt Adam and set forth the course of human history. What would be the purpose/the dispensation accomplished by letting Satan loose to deceive humanity again after 1000 years with Christ?
How could those who have been with Christ physically for that millenium allow themselves to be deceived by Satan once he is loosed?
c. If Christ’s rapture occurs at the beginning of the 1000 years and He reigns with the righteous alongside Him, then is it the wicked over whom they will govern on the earth? If so, then will the wicked behave for 1000 years as Christ is present only to be mislead again by Satan when he is loosed at the end of the millenium?
Does this not set up a scenario wherein humanity is more responsive to the presence of Satan (now loosed) than Christ (present on earth for 1000 years)?

I find the teachings of the millenium to be quite illogical. God is not One whom we can figure out, but He is also not so illogical. I hope someone responds to clarify these matters for me. Thanks.

The reason for the 1,000 year reign is for mankind to be on equal footing with Adam and Even in the Garden of Eden, i.e. perfection in Human form and action. Thus, every single human will have the same choice put to them in a perfect state (as Adam and Eve did). We judge Adam and Eve for their actions, but only after the 1,000 year reign will the Devil and his demons be let loose to tempt a PERFECT RACE, of course, individually. Thus we will all be able to make our final choice for a permanent perfect life or to fall like our original parents. Only then will evil be defeated after the choice has been made, once and for all time.
How could a perfect person, who has been imperfect once, allow himself to be deceived by Satan again? Easy, even perfection doesn’t make you superman, we will still have fears (i.e., Adam not wanting to lose Eve). We will still have to watch our actions or fall prey to easy answers, lusts, etc. Adam fell, we will too if not careful. Yes, even after seeing all the **** we’ve been through in this hard world, people can still fail. Why do you think Christs 33 1/2 years are so miraculous? He finished while still being perfect. And don’t think he wasn’t tempted (that’s the point of temptation), being hard to resist.
After the 1,000 year reign evil will be dealt with swiftly and promptly.
