Bible Q

The LORD whose feet will stand on the Mount of Olives (Zechariah 14:3-4) is God or Jesus?

A parallel can be seen here between Zechariah’s prophecy about God himself standing on the Mount of Olives, and the angels telling the disciples in Acts 1:11 that Jesus would return to the Mount of Olives:

Zechariah 14:3-4: Then the LORD will go out and fight against those nations as when he fights on a day of battle. On that day his feet shall stand on the Mount of Olives that lies before Jerusalem on the east, and the Mount of Olives shall be split in two from east to west by a very wide valley, so that one half of the Mount shall move northward, and the other half southward.

Acts 1:11-12: and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey away.

Some Oneness and Trinitarian believers have tried to use the parallel between these verses to suggest that Jesus is Yahweh. But this is

This is an example of agency, Jesus standing as ruler or representative for his Father.

Revelation 21:3: And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God….”

Yet God does not literally stand on earth, the context shows that God is represented by his agent, Jesus:

Revelation 2:7 “The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son.”
