There were 40 days between Jesus’ resurrection and his ascension to heaven. As Luke writes at the start of Acts:
[Jesus] presented himself alive to [his apostles] after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. [Acts 1:3]
