Christians should spread the word. Check out the following passages from Scripture:
Matt 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. (15) Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. (16) In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
We can spread the word by our example. People see that we do the works of God and it is like preaching without saying a word.
Matt 28:19-20 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (20) teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Not everyone can go to different parts of the world, but we should do our best wherever we are.
Mar 16:15-16 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
The gospel is man’s only hope for life after death. If people don’t hear the gospel, they can’t make the choice to believe.
Romans 10:13-15 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (14) How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? (15) And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”
Romans 10 shows there urgency of preaching.
Col 4:6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.
We preach by the way we live and the way we talk.
1 Peter 3:15 … always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect
We need to be able to explain to those who ask us about our hope.
So in summary, yes we must preach. Preaching can be done by our good example, but we also have to be ready to speak to people about our faith. If we can, it is good to go out to spread the gospel so others can have hope of eternal life. We should not shove the gospel down people’s throats though. Preaching is a joint venture with God. God calls those who he chooses and doubtless God provides a preacher to take the message to the called:
John 6:44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.
1 Cor 3:9 For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building.
