Bible Q

If no part of us goes to heaven, then how can we have “riches in heaven”? (Matthew 19:21)

Jesus said [to a rich man] “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” (Matthew 19:21)

Jesus’ comment is in the context of the man who asked what he must do to have eternal life.  In Matthew 5:12 says, “Your reward is great in heaven”.  If we do not go to heaven to receive our reward, then the reward must come from heaven to us — and that is exactly what Jesus says will happen: “For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done.”  The reward is in heaven because it comes from God.  The great reward is eternal life, which is the gift of God (Romans 6:23) to be given by Jesus Christ to the faithful at the time of resurrection.  Then they will reign with him on the earth. (Revelation 5:10)
