On judgment day, there will not be problems for the faithful.  It will be a time of joy and happiness — the time of the resurrection when the faithful will be given the gift of eternal life.  Isaiah 35:4

Say to those who have an anxious heart, “Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you.”

In the verse above, notice that God will save the faithful, and yet God will also come with vengeance and recompense.  So it is a good time for God’s faithful but a bad time for those who spurn God.

Some other Bible references to this time:

2 Thess 1:7-10 and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels  (8)  in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.  (9)  They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might,  (10)  when he comes on that day to be glorified in his saints, and to be marveled at among all who have believed, because our testimony to you was believed.

Points from 2 Thess 1 — when Jesus is revealed (the time of the judgment) he will destroy the wicked and glorify his saints.

Matt 12:36-37   I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, (37)  for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

2 Cor 5:10    For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.

All who know of God’s purpose, will appear before Jesus to receive their reward — immortality for the faithful;  eternal death for the faithless.

2 Peter 3:10-13   But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.  (11)  Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness,  (12)  waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn!  (13)  But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

2 Peter 3 tells of great judgments on the world, with great destruction.  This passage is not speaking of a destruction of the actual world, but of the political systems and evil works.   After the judgments of God on this ungodly world, Jesus will establish his righteous Kingdom on this earth and the faithful will help administer this Kingdom as immortal rulers for Jesus.  Jesus will be God’s king with God’s authority, and he will rule from Jerusalem.  Then the words of Habakkuk  2:14 will be fulfilled.

For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.

I’ll finish this answer with a beautiful passage from Matthew’s gospel account – Matt 25:31-46

When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne.  (32)  Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.  (33)  And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left.  (34)  Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.  (35)  For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,  (36)  I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’  (37)  Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?  (38)  And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you?  (39)  And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’  (40)  And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’

(41)  “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. (42)  For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,  (43)  I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’  (44)  Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’  (45)  Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’  (46)  And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

I have a young friend believer who asked me this question. Will giving an account for every word spoken and every action taken look like a film rewind of our lives on judgement day? If we are believers why would God want to show us everything we did wrong throughout our life?

Rather than giving an account for every word spoken, Matthew 12:36-37 indicates that we will give account for idle or careless words. There is no doubt that we will have to give account, as Romans 14:12 & Hebrews 4:13 indicate. Perhaps Matthew 25:32-46 gives a better picture of how it will take place, rather than a film rewind of our lives:

Mat 25:32-46 Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. (39) And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ (40) And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ (41) “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
