Armageddon is the location of a major battle to take place around the time of the return of Christ.

Revelation 16:14,16. For they are demonic spirits, performing signs, who go abroad to the kings of the whole world, to assemble them for battle on the great day of God the Almighty. … 16 And they assembled them at the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon.

This is the only place that Armageddon is mentioned by that name in the Bible, although many people equate this battle with other battles described in prophecies concerning the time of Christ’s return.

Armageddon means “the Mount of Megiddo” in Hebrew and probably refers to the town of Megiddo in northern Israel, about 40 km west of the Sea of Galilee. Megiddo has been the scene of dozens of battles over history, and is an especially appropriate location for this great battle described in Revelation.
